On Friday at the ISSF World Cup 2024 in Cairo, Anuradha Devi from India clinched a silver medal in the women’s 10m air pistol competition. It was the 33-year-old Devi’s first time at the ISSF World Cup, and she impressed with a score of 239.9 after firing 24 shots in the finals. She was second to Greece’s Anna Korakaki, a winner at the 2016 Rio Olympics in the 25m pistol event.

Korakaki scored 241.1, while Kazakhstan’s Irina Yunusmetova took the bronze with 219.2 from 22 shots. India’s Rhythm Sangwan, who earned an Olympic spot at the Asian Championships, was close to a podium place but finished fourth with 197.3 from 20 shots. Earlier, Sangwan led the qualifier with 584 points, while Devi was eighth with 575.

Manu Bhaker, an Olympian, didn’t reach the final, coming 18th with 572 points. Bhaker is up next in the 10m air pistol mixed team event, partnering with Ravinder Singh on Saturday. Sangwan will join Ujjawal Malik. Both Bhaker and Sangwan will also try their luck in the women’s 25m pistol event.

In the men’s 10m air pistol, Sagar Dangi was the sole Indian in the final, ranking sixth with 158.3 after 16 shots. Dangi had qualified fifth with 582 points, while Ujjawal Malik (579) and Ravinder Singh (577) didn’t make the cut.

Manu Bhaker and Rudrankksh Patil, a world champ, are part of India’s 49-member team at the ISSF World Cup. Bhaker, a standout at the Youth Olympic Games, is anticipated to shine in her shooting events, which include the 10m and 25m pistol. Varun Tomar, Vijayveer Sidhu, and Rhythm Sangwan secured places for India in the Olympics during the Asian Championships.

They are now part of the pistol squad. In 2022, Rudrankksh Patil won the world title in the 10m air rifle and will take part in his favored event. India expects a strong performance from Olympic athlete Divyansh Singh Panwar in the same category. Anantjeet Singh Naruka, Asia Games runner-up, heads India’s shotgun team, with Raiza Dhillon, women’s skeet Asian silver winner, also participating.

The Cairo tournament kicks off this year’s ISSF World Cup series for rifle, pistol, and shotgun shooters and wraps up on January 31. Fans can watch live streams of the finals on the ISSF’s YouTube channel, but there’s no live TV coverage in India.
