In the upcoming ISSF Final Olympic Qualification Championship for 2024, scheduled to begin this Friday in Doha, a delegation of 12 Indian marksmen will strive to obtain Olympic berths for the Paris 2024 Games. Throughout the championship in the Qatari capital, the competitors will have the opportunity to compete for shotgun quota places. India is presented with the chance to claim a pair of additional seats: one in women’s and one in men’s events for both skeet and trap.

Indian shooters have demonstrated proficiency in rifle and pistol categories, having already claimed the full quota spots available. However, the shotgun discipline has yielded four quotas thus far, achieved by Bhowneesh Mendiratta in men’s trap, Rajeshwari Kumari in women’s trap, Raiza Dhillon in women’s skeet, and Anantjeet Singh Naruka in men’s skeet.

Each nation is allowed a maximum of two quotas per category. Consequently, the Indian shotgun shooting team can seek to fill the remaining four available positions. This effort will be represented by three shooters in each event and only the leading two athletes (limited to one per country if eligible and if the nation has not yet achieved its maximum quota) will secure a place in the Doha competition.

Among those competing for India, Mairaj Ahmad Khan and Angadvir Singh Bajwa, who is also acknowledged as an Asian champion, will join Sheeraz Sheikh in a robust contingent for the men’s skeet event. In the women’s event, all eyes will be on Ganemat Sekhon. Vivaan Kapoor, Zoravar Singh Sandhu, and Prithviraj Tondaiman will team up to present a significant challenge in men’s trap.

Whereas Manisha Keer and Shreyasi Singh are set to underpin India’s ambition in women’s skeet. Notwithstanding the outcomes in Doha, India is poised to surpass its historical representation in Olympic shooting sports by sending a record-breaking team to the Paris 2024 Olympics, exceeding the team of 15 who participated in Tokyo 2020.
