The ISA World Surfing Games 2022 is set to take place from September 16 to 24, 2022, in Huntington Beach, California. The World Surfing Games is the International Surfing Association’s premier open championship event, serving as the first Olympic qualifying event in 2019 in Miyazaki, Japan, and in 2021 in Surf City, El Salvador. The International Surfing Association (ISA) is organizing the event, which will be hosted at “Surf City, USA” for the first time since 2006. Huntington Beach has a long history of hosting top-tier international surfing competitions. The 2022 iteration of the games will be the city’s seventh major ISA event, following three editions of the ISA World Surfing Games in 1984, 1996, and 2006, and the ISA World Juniors in 2005, 2018, and 2019.
The winning men’s and women’s national teams at these World Surfing Games will receive one Olympic place each for their respective nation/National Olympic Committee in a significant modification to the Olympic surfing qualification system. This qualification spot will be in addition to the country’s maximum quota of two athletes for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
