The exhibition boxing match pitting Floyd Mayweather against Logan Paul is now set to take place on June 6 at Miami, it was announced on Wednesday. The match was supposed to take place in February this year but was pushed back. However, the bout has now been confirmed by Mayweather himself.

“Mayweather Promotions, Fanmio and Showtime Boxing have come together to bring an epic event,” wrote the 44-year-old Mayweather in an Instagram post.

The match between Floyd Mayweather and Logan Paul is expected to draw plenty of money on pay-per-view.

Who is Logan Paul?

If you’re even a casual boxing fan, you will be forgiving for wondering this. The 26-year-old American is mostly known for being a YouTube personality.

His main channel has over 22 million subscribers, meaning there’s a massive audience for boxing to tap in to.

Paul has boxed professionaly one time and twice overall. Both matches have been against fellow YouTube personality KSI.

The first bout between Paul and KSI was an amateur one that ended in a draw. The second, a pro bout, saw KSI win via split decision.

Why is Floyd Mayweather interested in this match?

Simple: because of the money involved. Mayweather has always been about the biggest-earning bouts – he didn’t adopt the monicker ‘Money Mayweather’ for nothing.

Indeed, Mayweather has been retired from boxing since 2017. His last official bout was at Las Vegas, Nevada, when he took on UFC fighter Conor McGregor. Naturally, Mayweather won via TKO.

Since then, Mayweather has only competed in one bout – an exhibition match in Japan against Tenshin Nasukawa in 2018. Nasukawa was undefeated at the time but lost via first round TKO.

Even so, the possibility of him doing another exhibition match thereafter seemed likely. And it is Logan Paul who will get the chance to be his opponent.

What are the rules?

Nothing else about the event – including the undercard or the rules of the bout – have yet been confirmed. One thing is for sure though – the event will bring in plenty of money.

Whether it spells the end of what seems to be a spate of recent farcical boxing matches being promoted, however, is another matter altogether.
