Tokyo Olympics start on July 23. While not a lot of athletes will be taking part in the opening ceremony. Most of them will be resting, but for the Archery athletes, it will be different. The rankings will start from tomorrow itself with top Indian Archers like Deepika Kumari, Atanu Das, and others getting into action.
Indian archers will compete in five events, men’s and women’s individual events, men’s and women’s team events, and a mixed event in Tokyo 2020.
On 23rd July, Deepika Kumari will be in action in the Women’s Individual Qualification Rounds, while Atanu Das, Pravin Jadhav, and Tarundeep Rai will play in the Men’s Individual Qualification Rounds.
The archery competition starts with a ranking round
The team event will see 6 arrows get shot per set by each team.
In the team event, the teams shoot arrows in groups of 3s. This means a team of three archers shoots 3 arrows. The team with a higher score gets 2 points.
The team that gets to 5 points first, wins the match. In an event of a tie, every player from each team shoots one arrow.
The Tokyo 2020 Olympics will host the inaugural mixed team archery event. Like in shooting we will see men and women competing for the same team.
Participating nations will field two archers, one male, and one female, in the competition. Each set in the mixed team will consist of four arrows and the first team that achieves five set points wins the match.
The format remains the same as individual and team events, teams will shoot a target set 70 meters away from them.
