UFC fighter Conor McGregor has been in the news lately, but not due to his exploits in the Octagon. The Irish fighter said on Twitter that he might end up buying Manchester United. Since then, rumours around his supposed plan to buy the Premier League giants have, understandly, swirled. Yet he took it one step further on Monday. He simply tweeted out the hashtag ‘#asknotorious’, implying he will do a question and answer session. One fan tweeted him and asked if he really did want to buy Manchester United. His answer revealed interest in another major British club – Celtic.

“A conversation came up regarding Celtic first to be honest. To acquire shares from Dermot Desmond. I am certainly interested in acquiring a sports team at some stage! Both Celtic and Man United are teams I like for sure. But I am open. I feel I could do big things for a club,” he said.

Will Conor McGregor ever own either side?

McGregor valued at over 180 million pounds, will be a popular choice of part-owner in any club. His vast profile would also help attract sponsorships.

However, whether the club to join brand McGregor will be either United or Celtic is something that can’t be ascertained for sure.

United are valued at over 3 billion pounds by Forbes, and remain a profitable entity. What’s more, despite recent fan protests, the owners have no inclination to sell.

Celtic aren’t quite as expensive a commodity as United, valued at a little over 80 million pounds. However, their considerable history in Scotland makes them an attractive club to be part of.

Yet both teams require rebuilds in coming times. United, despite showing progress under manager Ole Gunnar Solksjaer, haven’t won a league title since 2013.

Celtic, normally so dominant in Scotland, have soundly lost this year’s title to bitter Old Firm rivals Rangers.

McGregor, for his part, is gearing up for his triolgy-completing UFC bout against Dustin Poirier. That highly-anticipated match will main event UFC 264 in July 11 at Las Vegas, Nevada.
