With a team total of 166.564, Team USA, which comprised a mix of Olympic veterans, world medalists, and debutants, won gold for the sixth time at the World Artistic Gymnastics World Championships 2022. Great Britain came in second with 163.363 points, ahead of Canada with 160.563. With this, the USA, Great Britain and Canada women’s team won the quota for the Paris Olympics 2024. The United States has ruled the team competition at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships by becoming the first women’s team to accomplish this feat since 2011. Only Romania’s women’s team has won five consecutive games, while the Chinese men’s team has won six straight games from 2003 to 2014.

The Americans pulled ahead, following a great vaulting effort in the first rotation, collecting 43.133 points. Jade Carey, the Olympic floor exercise champion, led the team with a 14.800. Shilese Jones took the first spot on the uneven bars with a score of 14.333 as they earned a 42.199. As the teams advanced to the third apparatus, the United States led Great Britain by 2.100 points. Despite Skye Blakely, the anchor on the balance beam, falling on her standing back full, the Americans improved their advantage to 2.200 after scoring a 39.399. The final rotation on the floor saw Great Britain and the United States go back and forth, but the United States took home the gold owing to a flawless performance from Chiles’ act.

Japan and Canada were in a head-to-head race for the bronze medal.  Team Canada put pressure on Japan by producing the second-best team total on the balance beam, a 39.632, driven by three-time Olympian Ellie Black. It was Fukasawa Kokoro who was the last to go for Japan. She turned the wrong way on a pirouette and eventually fell off the uneven bars. She fell again, earning only a 9.400 and dropping Japan to seventh and giving Canada their first-ever team medal at the worlds.
