Indian Archery Junior Team Trials: Results

Here are the results of the Junior Indian team selection trials took place at the National Centers of Excellence in Sonepat, Haryana.

The Indian Junior team selection trials took place at the National Centers of Excellence in Sonepat, Haryana. Many talented archers from all around India participated in the trials. The young archers shattered three World records during the Assessment trials held for the selection of the Indian junior team for Archery. Maharashtra’s Parth Salunkhe smashed two world records in the Junior U-21 men. 

Promising archer Parth Salunkhe broke two World Records

In the 1440 Round – 144 arrows, Parth broke the record set by Korea’s Kim Seoung Hoon (1351/1440) in the Youth World Archery Championships, Leguncia by scoring 1353 of 1440 points. He even shot 1354 out of 1440 points in the double 70 meter, breaking the previous record achieved by the USA’s JoonSuh Oh (1348/1440)  at the US Olympic Team Trials 2020.

Parth became the national champion in 2021 by defeating Services’ Sukhchain Singh 7-3 in the National Archery Championships. Parth’s father Sushant trained from 2014 to 2017 after his coach left the New English Medium School from which he was receiving his training. Sushant, a former kickboxing silver medalist at the national level, urged his son to follow his passion. He first trained himself using YouTube videos before passing on his knowledge to his son. After Parth was spotted at the Khelo India trials in Aurangabad, his life was forever changed. In 2018, he relocated to the Sports Authority of India center in Sonipat and he hasn’t looked back since then. In 2022, Parth teamed up with Rahul Nagarwal and Dhiraj Bommadevara to clinch the gold medal for India in the men’s recurve team event at the Asia Cup World Ranking Stage 1 tournament.

Ojas Sushant Deotale broke World number one Mike Scholoesser’s record

Another archer from Maharashtra, Ojas Sushant Deotale broke the Junior World Record set by current World no. 1 Mike Scholoesser from the Netherlands in 2014 by scoring 1423 of 1440 in the 1440 round (compound). The former World Champion and current European Champion Mike had secured 1419 out of 1440 at the National Outdoor Championships- WEERT in June 2014.
