According to an official with the Ghana Cycling Federation, the 2023 African Road Cycling and Paracycling Championships would serve as a warm-up event for the 2023 African Games (GCF). According to Modern Ghana, an online leading media portal in Ghana, the technical director of the GCF Shaaban Mohammed described the upcoming Championships, which will take place from February 8 to 17, 2023, as a good opportunity for the country. The continental competitions are projected to attract between 20 and 40 countries, with the African Road Paracycling Championships taking place in Ghana for the first time.

According to Mohammed, the organization of this event in Ghana will provide a platform for more para cyclists to be categorized by the international body’s visiting team. The African Road Paracycling Championships will feature elite, junior, youth, and under-23 divisions of competition. Mohammed also discussed strategies for developing cycling in Ghana ahead of the August African Games, which will take place in Accra. He stated that he was in talks with the Ghana Tourist Board about holding bicycle competitions in conjunction with festivals there. He also revealed plans for the creation of a Velodrome, which will cost $60 million (£49.5 million/€55.9 million) and will house concerts, basketball, volleyball, badminton, handball, table tennis, and athletics in addition to cycling.

Cycling is one of 24 medal sports on the Accra 2023 African Games program. The 13th African Games are scheduled to take place in three cities in Ghana in 2023 – Accra, Kumasi, and Cape Coast.  The games will be decentralized for the second time in history, a practice that began with the last edition in Morocco. In October 2018, Ghana was awarded the opportunity to host the occasion. Ghana and the African Union signed a contract in November 2021 for Ghana to host the occasion. Indoor sports will be played at the brand-new Borteyman Sports Complex in Borteyman, Accra.
