At the beginning of the season, the Washington Capitals and Winnipeg Jets are on opposing ends of the standings. Despite having a 13-12-4 record, the Capitals are currently on a three-game winning run. With four straight victories, the Jets, who have an 18-7-1 record, have jumped into the first position in the Central Division. The upcoming game should be excellent as a result of the Capitals’ desire to gain distance in the Metropolitan Division and the Jets’ desire to maintain their position near the top of the Western Conference.

The Capitals have shown promise this season, but with only 2.83 goals scored per game, they still need their offence to improve. The top two lines, led by Evgeny Kuznetsov, Dylan Strome, and Alexander Ovechkin, have combined for 25 goals and 47 assists, but the rest of the offence has struggled. Opposing defences can contain the top-heavy offence because just six skaters have six goals or more and only seven skaters have eight assists or more.

With their attack moving up and scoring 3.35 goals per game, the Jets are having a fantastic season. The top two lines, Kyle Connor, Pierre-Luc Dubois, and Blake Wheeler, have combined for 33 goals and 48 assists, but the rest of the attack has also contributed. In order to open up the attack, defenseman Josh Morrissey has added five goals and 25 assists from the point while Mark Scheifele, Adam Lowry, and Cole Perfetti have combined for 27 goals and 30 assists.
