The match between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Washington Capitals will take place at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Canada on Thursday, October 13 at 7:30 PM ET.
The Toronto Maple Leafs will welcome the Washington Capitals to the Scotiabank Arena for an NHL game on Thursday. Toronto started their season with a 4-3 loss to the Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday. William Nylander, Michael Bunting and Denis Malgin scored the goals for the Maple Leafs in what was a close match.
Despite leading by one goal in the first period, Toronto could not stop Montreal from scoring two goals each in the second and third periods. After the game, Toronto head coach Sheldon Keefe said that he should be expecting more from his team. “There was nothing wrong with our effort, it was just careless,” said Keefe. “I expect more, our group should expect more. It was not good enough.”
Similar to the Maple Leafs, the Washington Capitals also lost their opening game of the season 5-2 to the Boston Bruins. Goals from Anthony Mantha and Conor Sheary were not enough as Boston ran riot and recorded a statement win in their opening game. Capitals goaltender Darcy Kuemper ended the game with 25 saves from 29 shots and a save percentage of .862.
Washington head coach Peter Laviolette said after the game, “We were disjointed, it seemed, for the first half of the game and when you wanted the puck to be there, it wasn’t. We weren’t on the mark with the pass or we weren’t on the mark with positioning or we got outnumbered in a battle. Whatever it might be, we just weren’t clicking. We weren’t in sync.”
