The Avalanche won the Stanley Cup for the first time since 2001.
The Colorado Avalanche beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 2-1 in Game 6 and in the process won the NHL Stanley Cup for the first time since 2001 and for the third time in their franchise history. After the game, an emotional Cale Makar said, “It’s just been building over time. I’ve been here only three years. A couple of tough exits in the playoffs. It was just all leading up to this.”

The Avalanche have been impressive throughout the season and the playoffs were no different. After being on the receiving end of the defeats for many seasons, Colorado broke through this time, thanks to sheer willpower and some high-quality play. Andrew Cogliano said, “To beat them is probably a little more satisfying, to be honest, because they are champions. They know how to win. And, ultimately, when you can beat the champions, you know you really earned it.”
