The Los Angeles Kings will welcome the Seattle Kraken to Crypto.com Arena for an NHL game on Thursday. The Kings were left heartbroken as they lost their first game to the Vegas Golden Knights 4-3. Mark Stone of Vegas scored the winning goal with just 24 seconds left on the clock to break LA hearts. Gabriel Vilardi, Arthur Kaliyev and Adrian Kempe were on the scoresheet for the Kings in the loss.
Kings head coach Todd McLellan said after the game, “We’ve preached and preached about it. Sometimes you’ve got to get hit pretty hard with a two-by-four. Maybe this was it. That is all game management. That’s getting engaged and being ready to go. Their team did a better job of it than we did tonight.”
The Seattle Kraken on the other hand lost their first game too in similar circumstances as they were beaten 5-4 in overtime by the Anaheim Ducks. Goals from Matty Beniers, Oliver Bjorkstrand, Andre Burakovsky and Jared McCann were not enough on the day as Seattle fell to defeat in their first game of the season.
Dave Hakstol, coach of the Seattle Kraken bemoaned the fact that they were not able to see the game out when they had the lead. Speaking to the press after the game, Hakstol said, “We come away with a point but we liked the position we were in, especially at 4-2 and being in a position to lock it down. So, there’s a couple things we have to do better there.”
