The Arizona Coyotes have some exciting news to share: They’ve extended the contract of their general manager, Bill Armstrong, for several more years. The exact details of the contract remain a mystery, as the team likes to keep those under wraps.

Bill Armstrong has been at the helm of the Coyotes as their GM since September 17, 2020, and it looks like he’s sticking around for a while. During his time in charge, he’s been working hard to reshape the team both on and off the ice.

Coyotes owner, chairman, and governor, Alex Meruelo, had some kind words to say about Armstrong’s contributions. Meruelo praised Armstrong for his ability to bring top-notch talent to the team through drafting, trades, and free agency. He also credited Armstrong for creating a winning atmosphere by assembling a strong coaching staff and other key members of the hockey operations department.

Armstrong’s hiring of head coach André Tourigny ahead of the 2021-22 season paid off with a significant improvement in the team’s performance, culminating in a 13-point jump in the 2022-23 season compared to the previous year.

Bill Armstrong was Assistant GM for St. Louis Blues

Before joining the Coyotes, Bill Armstrong played a significant role with the St. Louis Blues, where he served as the assistant general manager and director of amateur scouting from 2018 to 2020. He played a crucial part in building the Blues team that clinched the Stanley Cup in 2019. Armstrong’s history with the Blues goes way back, starting as an amateur scout in 2004 and eventually taking on the role of director of amateur scouting in 2010.

But before his time in the front office, Armstrong had a career as a coach in various leagues, including the American Hockey League (AHL) and the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL). He had successful stints as an assistant coach and head coach with the AHL’s Providence Bruins and later became the head coach of the ECHL’s Trenton Titans.

Bill Armstrong’s journey in the hockey world began as a player. He spent four seasons in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) and even clinched the Memorial Cup with the Oshawa Generals in 1990. The Philadelphia Flyers drafted him in the third round of the 1990 NHL Entry Draft, and he went on to play for nine seasons in the AHL and the International Hockey League (IHL), amassing 74 points, 10 goals, 64 assists, and a whopping 1,443 penalty minutes throughout his career. Armstrong hails from Richmond Hill, Ontario.

In conclusion, the Arizona Coyotes are placing their trust in Bill Armstrong to lead them to greater heights, and with his track record and dedication, they’re aiming to bring a Stanley Cup to their fans in the Valley.
