As they fly to the coast to play the Boston Bruins in Boston, the Arizona Coyotes continue their early-season eastward journey. In their first game, the Pittsburgh Penguins blasted the Coyotes, 6-2. Thanks to a 5-2 victory over Washington to start the season, Boston enters the game 1-0. It starts at 7:00 p.m. Eastern Time.
The Coyotes’ 2022–23 season got off to a poor start with their 6-2 defeat in Pittsburgh on Thursday night after they only managed to achieve 57 points and missed the playoffs the previous year. There will be more losses like that this season because the Coyotes are fully committed to rebuilding. Nick Ritchie scored both goals for the Coyotes in the defeat, leading the team. Goalie Karel Vejmelka stopped 47 shots while the Coyotes allowed a game-high 53 shots on goal. Vejmelka will need to be prepared every night because he is facing a dubious defense.
With a 5-2 victory over Washington on the road, the Boston Bruins got off to a strong start under Jim Montgomery’s leadership. The defensive duo of Charlie McAvoy and Matt Grzelcyk, along with top scorer Brad Marchand, were three crucial players for the Bruins, yet they still managed to win. In a victory that demonstrated the Bruins still have a ton of potential even without their top defenseman and leading scorer, David Pastrnak opened the first game of a contract year with three assists and a goal. Old reliable captain Patrice Bergeron also scored a goal. Linus Ullmark started in goal and blocked 33 shots.
