This weekend, the Panthers will cross the country to play the Seahawks in Seattle. The Broncos and former Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson were upset by Carolina when they were on their bye week the previous week. Last week, Seattle held onto the final NFC playoff spot despite a scare on the road against the Rams.
Sam Darnold is the Panthers’ third quarterback this season, and they have yet to win on the road. However, Carolina has recently improved its level of competition, going 2-1 in its previous three games. The Seahawks have a solid track record at Lumen Field, where they are now 3-2. After suffering two straight defeats, Seattle finally won again in Week 13 against a rival from its division.
The offense of the Panthers is not very impressive. It is ranked 29th in passing yards and 25th in scoring (19.2 ppg) (174.6). With the 18th-most yards per game on the ground, the run game is adequate (116.8). Christian McCaffrey’s departure has left D’Onta Foreman with the majority of the workload, with Chuba Hubbard following closely behind. In his two-week-old season debut, Darnold threw for 164 yards and a touchdown while also scoring on the ground. In addition, he made four passes for 103 yards to DJ Moore, who had his second 100-yard performance of the season.
Although Carolina’s defense has only allowed 38 points overall over its last three games, it is 14th in the league in terms of points allowed (22.2). Teams have had success running against the Panthers, but passing against their secondary has proven to be a bit more challenging.
