The seasoned NFL quarterback and former MVP Cam Newton was involved in a scuffle over the weekend at a 7-on-7 football tournament, which was an unexpected turn of events. Newton’s “C1N” squad was competing in the first-ever “We Ball Sports” 7v7 tournament in Atlanta when the event happened.

Reportedly Viral Video Sparks Controversy

An aggressive incident between Newton and many members of Top Shelf Performance (TSP), a team competing in the same competition was filmed in a very popular reportedly video that went viral on social media. During the altercation, which took place under a pop-up tent and extended to a neighboring fence, Newton insisted on holding onto someone despite the mayhem.

Tensions increased and then a man in a white T-shirt entered the fight and delivered a big blow. Thankfully, it didn’t appear that any serious injuries happened. As the participants scattered, a security guard moved in quickly to try to maintain order.

Cam Newton’s Challenge Sparks Confrontation

Though the precise reason for the fight is still unknown there have been rumors that it had something to do with a video in which Newton challenged viewers, saying, “If you beat my team 15U C1N Red or 18UC1N Platinum I will pay every single player on the team.” This pre-tournament statement may have increased tensions and precipitated the unanticipated fight.

TopShelf Performance’s general manager, Steph Brown, expressed his feelings on Instagram after the event. Newton was the target of one of his posts, which said, “We need that up out ya @cameron1newton or you can write a check payable too [sic] @topshelf7v7.” By tagging C1N’s 7v7 team account and writing, “It Ain’t No Fun When the [rabbit emoji] Got the [watergun emoji],” another post injected a lighthearted yet hostile tone.

On the opening day of the competition, TopShelf Performance’s team triumphed against Newton’s 18U C1N Platinum team.

TSP Executives Stay Mum

CEO TJ Brown and General Manager Steph Brown of TopShelf Performance have not responded to media requests promptly, despite the mounting turmoil. There is an element of mystery around the incident because TSP has not commented.

Since Cam Newton became involved in the fight, there are concerns about the possible fallout for him from the league as well as from the general public. Newton, who is renowned for his tenacity, will try to move past this unexpected chapter in his life and concentrate on his play both on and off the field as the NFL community watches for updates.
