Report: Kevin Durant asks to be traded from the Brooklyn Nets

It looks like Kevin Durant and Brooklyn Net aren’t going to stay together for long. K.D. has asked the Nets for a trade, according to NBA insider Shams Charania, who just reported the story. There are a number of reasons why the action is surprising. The first is Durant, who just agreed to a four-year, $198 million deal extension to remain with the organisation until 2021.

Durant joined Brooklyn in 2019 as a free agent, however he missed his debut season due to an Achilles injury. He scored over 30 points per game on average over the next two seasons. There hasn’t been any indication on where Durant wants to be dealt, but there are probably plenty of interested parties. But it appears like Kevin Durant’s tenure with the Brooklyn Nets is finally going to get over. On Thursday, NBA insiders Shams Charania and Adrian Wojnarowski announced on Twitter that KD had asked to be traded.

The information is released shortly after Kyrie Irving elected to activate his player option to play for the Nets again in the upcoming campaign. Since Irving said he was opting in on Monday, Woj claims that Brooklyn’s front staff has not had a contract with either KD or Irving. Adrian Wojnarowski wrote on twitter, “Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving had no contact with the franchise after Irving opted into his deal on Monday, and a sense of inevitability existed that Durant would eventually ask for a trade, sources tell ESPN. It happened today.”
