Star guard and NBA superstar Kyrie Irving decided yesterday that he was going to stay with the Brooklyn Nets for at least one more season after he decided to opt in his player option. There should be no doubts about Kyrie’s abilities as a player because, on his day, he can be as devastating as they come. He was not able to play most of Brooklyn’s games last season because of New York City’s strict COVID-19 vaccine mandate. When he did come back, he did not have the desired impact as the Nets struggled and were swept by the Boston Celtics in the first round of the playoffs.

Journalist Freddie Coleman was a guest on ESPN’s First Take when he was asked if the Nets or the Lakers were in a tough spot going into next season and he picked the Nets and his reason for that was Kyrie. He said, “He (Kyrie Irving) is not a dumb person. I think he’s very intelligent, very smart. But sometimes he acts too smart for the room or thinks he’s more intelligent than the room. When you put yourself out there like that, the way he’s been able to put himself out like that, you’re going to have a lot of people come at you or support you. Because of him, that is why all these questions are more with the Brooklyn Nets than with the Los Angeles Lakers.”

Kyrie Irving exercises option to stay with the Nets

The Brooklyn Nets seem to have some good news and that is star guard Kyrie Irving has decided to opt in for his final year to stay at the Barclays Center. He will make $36 million this season. He confirmed his decision to stay in an interview with The Athletic where he said, “Normal people keep the world going, but those who dare to be different lead us into tomorrow. I’ve made my decision to opt in. See you in the fall.”

Irving, who is a seven-time All-Star had a disappointing last season for the Nets where he averaged 27.4 points and 5.8 assists. He’s about to enter the final season in a four-year, $137 million deal with Brooklyn where he played only 103 games over that time span because of injuries and various off-the-court issues. One of the major causes of concern for Kyrie was the COVID-19 vaccine mandate. He appeared in only 29 games in the regular season and when he did make his comeback towards the end of the regular season, the Nets got swept by the Boston Celtics in the first round of the playoffs.
