Boston Celtics’ Marcus Smart was in the eye of the storm after the match against Golden State Warriors because Stephen Curry got injured while vying for the ball with him. Curry limped out of the game and was later ruled out for an indefinite period of time.

Social media was split when it came to pointing the finger at Marcus Smart with some suggesting that it was dirty play while others said that it was unintentional. Smart took the time out to clarify what happened and defended himself by saying that he is a very hard working player.

“I didn’t see [Curry]. I saw the ball, I dove for the ball, trying to make a play… Unfortunately, that occurred. I’m sure I’m going to get called dirty. But I know who I am… I play very hard and I leave everything on the court… My teammates, my colleagues, they know I’m not a dirty player”, said Smart.

Unfortunately for Smart, his reputation does him no favours as he has always been known for his rather notorious style of play. Regardless of what his intention was, Smart faced a lot of criticism on social media.

Warriors coach Kerr said this about Marcus Smart

Warriors coach Steve Kerr said that it was a dangerous play regardless of Smart’s intention. He said, “I thought it was a dangerous play. I thought Marcus dove into Steph’s knee and that’s what I was upset about. I have a lot of respect for Marcus. He’s a hell of a player, gamer, competitor. I coached him in the World Cup a few summers ago… We talked after the game and we’re good, but I thought it was a dangerous play. I just let him know.”
