The world of racing has been mourning the death of late Murray Walker. He’s been associated with racing for 50 plus years, with different broadcasters and partners including his father. His first regular broadcasting work was on radio coverage of the Isle of Man annual Tourist Trophy motorcycle race alongside his father. They were known as the only single father and son commentary pair within the BBC from 1949-1962. After the death of his father in 1962, he became the BBC’s chief motorcycling commentator.

Murray was an occasional commentator for Formula 1 during the early 1970’s. Before he became a full-time commentator in 1978. He was famously known for his comical blunders and that made him special among the fans and in the paddock area. One of Walker’s most famous lines was, “I’ve got to stop now, because I’ve got a lump in my throat” as Britain’s Damon Hill won the 1996 Japanese Grand Prix ,and it was his only World Championship. People who have been associated with formula 1 have expressed their sadness via social media.

World champion Lewis Hamilton had tweeted “So sad to hear of Murray’s passing. I remember growing up hearing your voice over the races. You made the sport so much more exciting and captivating. The iconic voice of our sport and a great man, thank you for all you did, you will never be forgotten. Rest in peace.”

“We are all very sad to hear that Murray Walker, the voice of motorsport, passed away earlier today.” tweeted out by the Red Bull racing team.

“One of the legendary voices of @F1 has passed away. We are grateful to him for adding to the excitement of our battles on the track.” tweeted out by the Scuderia Ferrari team.
