David Peterson ran the show as the New York Mets thrashed the Miami Marlins 6-0 on Monday at Citi Field in New York. Peterson’s wife was in labour as she was due to give birth to their first child and he was ready to leave the field if there was an emergency but given that he did not receive any call, he pitched into the sixth inning and helped the Mets record a comprehensive win. He allowed six hits and two walks as the Mets won the four-game series by finishing their 11th shutout this season, tying the New York Yankees for the major league lead.

New York Mets raced to a lead

New York scored their way to a 4-0 lead against Trevor Rogers with two sacrifice flies, Mark Canha’s bases-loaded walk and McNeil’s run home. Rogers was charged with three earned runs over five innings with seven strikes. JD Davis was hit on the left hand and he threw his bat in pain but remained in the game. Davis had surgery to repair a torn ligament in his left hand that bothered him throughout 2021.
