Manny Machado of the San Diego Padres departed Sunday's game against the Colorado Rockies in the top of the first inning with an apparent left ankle injury.
In the series finale at Coors Field, the San Diego Padres tried to escape a sweep against the Colorado Rockies. On Saturday night, the Rockies defeated the Padres 5-4. Colorado got off to a good start when CJ Cron hit a two-run home ball to left field to put the Rockies up 2-0. Cron hit his 14th home run of the year in 2022. Manny Machado came to the bat with the Padres trailing 2-1 in the fifth inning. Machado hit a two-run home ball to left field to give San Diego the lead.
It was his 12th of the season, and it gave the Padres a 3-2 edge. Colorado was behind 4-2 in the fifth inning when Charlie Blackmon came up to bat with a runner on base. To tie the game, Blackmon blasted a fastball into the second tier seats in right field. In 2022, it was his 11th. The game stayed tied until Ryan McMahon took the mound in the eighth inning. The Rockies took a late lead when McMahon hit a 1-2 pitch into the right-field bleachers. In the ninth inning, the Padres had two runners on base but were unable to tie the game. The Padres are 41-26 and second in the National League West. The Rockies, meanwhile, are 29-37 and in sixth place in the National League West. Since last season, the Rockies have won nine straight games against the Padres at Coors Field.
