The Miami Marlins (28-33, 32-29 RL, 31-29-1 O/U) and the New York Mets (41-23, 38-26 RL, 33-27-4 O/U) open a three-game NL East series on Friday evening. The Marlins have yet to announce a starter. The Mets reply with veteran Carlos Carrasco, seeking his eighth win. The Mets went 10-9 against the Marlins last season. Miami has yet to choose a starting quarterback for the first game of the series. Pablo Lopez missed his previous start but may be ready for this one. The skilled veteran right-hander is enjoying a fantastic season, with a 2.30 ERA and a 1.02 WHIP while going 4-2 in 70.1 innings thrown. The Marlins’ bullpen has a 4.41 ERA and a 1.37 WHIP, which is below average. If Lopez isn’t ready, this will most probably be a bullpen appearance.

The Marlins are an intriguing young squad that is capable of making the playoffs. The offence is working, and it has resulted in the team winning two of their past three series, including a major series win against the Astros prior to actually losing two of three to the Phillies this last week. Jazz Chisholm Jr. is among the greatest potential in the Majors and has lived up to expectations. The 24-year-old second baseman has five home runs and 10 RBIs in his previous nine games, giving him a total of 13 home runs, 41 RBIs, and an.838 OPS. Last season, Chisholm Jr. had seven RBIs against the Mets. Miami ranks 12th in the league with a 4.52 run average. The pitching staff has a 3.82 team ERA, which ranks them 13th in the major leagues.
