On the Fourth of July in the Motor City, two AL Central rivals square off in a matinée match to start an early week series. The first game of a Monday afternoon doubleheader, which will be the first in a four-game series, will be played on the road by the Cleveland Guardians. On Sunday afternoon, Cleveland played the last game of a three-game series at home against the Yankees in an effort to prevent a sweep.
Following a postponed Friday game, the Guardians were destroyed 13-4 in game one of a doubleheader and 6-1 in game two. Detroit defeated the Royals at home in the last contest of a three-game series after coming from behind to win the first game 4-3 on Saturday. The Tigers had a 3-2 advantage in the season series between the two clubs, including a recent series from May 26–29 in which they won two out of three at home.
