Despite a recent dip in state domination, the zeal for kabaddi remains intense among the state’s youth. A promising young kabaddi player who has caught attention recently is 21-year-old M. Sudhakar from Tiruchirappalli district.
He stepped onto the big stage joining three-time champions Patna Pirates for the upcoming Pro Kabaddi League season, as confirmed by an insider with knowledge of the situation. In the winter edition of the Yuva Kabaddi series of 2022, Sudhakar, playing for the Palani Tuskers, demonstrated his skill by emerging as the leading scorer with 328 points. Joining the ranks of the Pro Kabaddi League marks a dream becoming a reality for the young athlete. The road to success wasn’t straightforward for Sudhakar; post-high school, he had to switch colleges to find one that accommodated his sporting commitments.
Following his achievements in the Yuva Kabaddi Series, he secured employment with the ICF, Integral Coach Factory, in Chennai, a workplace home to other renowned names and current or past Pro Kabaddi athletes like Abhinesh Nadarajan, Sajin Chandrasekhar, D. Gopu, and Suresh Kumar. In the sport, Sudhakar has made a name as a left raider for his impressive and agile jumps, easily dodging defenders, and sometimes employing the skillful dubki. His ascent to the Pro Kabaddi League places him among the few from his village to attain such levels of competitive kabaddi.
