Fazel Atrachali is a prominent Iranian Kabaddi player who is the skipper of both the Gujarat Giants in the VIVO Pro Kabaddi League and Iran’s national team. He is the only non-Indian player in the history of the league to be among the best ten for tackle points. During the fourth edition of the league, he earned the Best Defender of the Season title and is the highest-paid international player in the league, having scored an impressive 424 tackle points.
Atrachali’s career in kabaddi began at just 11 years old in Gorgan, Iran. He has represented Iran in major competitions like the 2010 and 2014 Asian Games, leading the team as captain in 2014. Before his professional kabaddi career, he worked as a blacksmith. He made his first appearance in the Pro Kabaddi League with U Mumba, where he played against Dabang Delhi and scored two tackle points. He soon upped his game, scoring seven points in a match against Puneri Paltan. In his second season, he scored 12 points in five matches. In the third season, he achieved 32 tackle points and one raid point in 11 matches.
Atrachali’s move to Patna Pirates in Season four saw his rise as a leading defender as he topped the tackle points chart with 52 in 16 matches. The season witnessed his team winning the Pro Kabaddi title and he was awarded the Best Defender. In Season 5, with Gujarat Fortunegiants, he scored 57 tackle points and played a key role in taking the team to the final. U Mumba reacquired him in Season 6 as captain, where he accumulated 83 tackle points. In Season 7, he maintained his stellar performance and became the Best Defender with 82 tackle points. Internationally, Atrachali played in Iran’s World Cup team that reached the finals and captained the Asian Games 2018 gold Medal-winning team.
