The Pro Kabaddi League is just a week away to crown its new winner. The third leg of the tournament ended on December 10, 2022 with the defending champion Dabang Delhi KC becoming the last team to reach the playoffs. Alongside Dabang Delhi, Jaipur Pink Panthers, Puneri Paltan, Bengaluru Bulls, UP Yoddhas, and Tamil Thalaivas have also qualified for the playoffs. Let’s take a look at how the teams have fared in this year’s competition and who were the stand-out performers for the teams that made to the playoffs.

Jaipur Pink Panthers

One of the most consistent teams over the entire course of tournament, Jaipur Pink Panthers are the current table toppers having won 4 of their last 5 games and drawing one. They were the winners of the inaugural season of the Pro Kabaddi League in 2014, defeating U Mumba by 35-24. While they were not able to replicate it for the next two seasons, they qualified for the playoffs in season 4, placing second to Patna Pirates. They will be hoping to replicate their initial success, with Arjun Deshwal being one of the top raiders of the tournament.

Puneri Paltan

While they’ve not had a stellar start to the tournament, winning none of their first 3 games, Puneri Paltan have comeback with eyes on the trophy for this year, placing second on the table and qualifying for the playoffs. They have not won an edition of the Pro Kabaddi League, qualifying for the playoffs only 3 times. However, the captain, Fazel Atrachali, who is also the captain of the Iran National Kabaddi team, will be wanting to change that, having showed off his domineering defending skills over the period of this tournament.

Bengaluru Bulls

Unlike Puneri Paltan, Bengaluru Bulls have been riding on their strong start of winning their first 3 games and have paved their way to the playoffs by sitting in a comfortable 3rd position. They’ve been one of the most successful teams in Pro Kabaddi League, reaching the semifinals in the inaugural 2014 season, becoming runners up to U Mumba in 2015 and then finally laying their hands on the trophy in the 2018-19 season. One of their raiders, Bharat Hooda has been very successful, and it will be worth watching if he can replicate his performance in the playoffs.

UP Yoddhas

Having formed in 2017, this team is a more recent addition to the Pro Kabaddi League. However, that has not stopped it from becoming a powerhouse, having qualified for the playoffs every season since it’s inception and becoming a very consistent team every time they play. Pardeep Narwal, a record signing of Rs 1.65Cr will be wanting to reproduce his previous success of three straight trophies and cement his place as one of the greatest raiders of all time.

Tamil Thalaivas

One of the surprise contestants of this year’s Pro Kabaddi League, Tamil Thalaivas have wiggled their place in the playoffs for the first time since their debut in 2017 season. Despite the injury of one of their best raiders, Pawan Sehrawat, who they purchased this year, they’ve managed to make the play offs and shown immense focus to cement their place in the knockout stages of this tournament. They have shown that Kabaddi is a team sport in the end, and each member has pulled their weight to help them reach here.

Dabang Delhi KC

The winners of the last edition, it is no surprise to see them qualifying for the playoffs again. After some rocky finishes in the initial seasons, Dabang Delhi KC has shown great consistency having qualified for the playoffs every time in the last 3 editions of the Pro Kabaddi League. With one of the speediest and most consistent raiders, Naveen Kumar, leading them, it would not be a surprise to see them lift the trophies 2 consecutive times and become the champions of this tournament.
