Gujarat Giants defeated the Jaipur Pink Panthers 34-27 thanks to a tenacious defensive performance on Thursday. Girish Ernak, the Giants’ left corner, led the way with seven tackle points, while raider Rakesh Narwal led the attack with seven raid points. Over the first few minutes, the game was a close one, with neither team able to pile up points.

The Pink Panthers were leading by four points when Gujarat scored five straight points thanks to two strong tackles from Girish Ernak and some good work from the Giants’ raiders, leaving Jaipur with only two players on the mat. Rakesh obtained them both in the same raid, assisting the Giants in inflicting the game’s first All Out and taking a 13-7 lead.

Arjun Deshwal’s two-point raid put an end to the Giants’ 13-point run and ignited the Pink Panthers’ comeback. Gujarat was outscored 5-1, and they were reduced to two on the mat. The All Out was halted by a Super Tackle from Parvesh Bhainswal, but Deshwal ensured the Pink Panthers capitalised on their advantage, taking out the remaining two players and assisting the Panthers in inflicting an All Out. The Giants led the teams into halftime by two points.

The Pink Panthers’ momentum carried over into the second half, and they were the aggressors from the start. The Giants fought back, but the Panthers eventually took the lead, thanks to Deshwal, who completed his Super 10 midway through the half, and some strong defence.

But the Giants came roaring back, going on a 6-2 run to reclaim the lead and reduce the Pink Panthers to just two players on the mat. With less than a minute remaining in the game, a self-out and a Bhainswal block helped the Giants inflict an All Out and take a 33-27 lead. Ernak, the Giants’ star performer, added another tackle point to his tally for good measure as Gujarat began their season with a win.
