Vandana Katariya is an Indian hockey star who has emerged as a key player for the national team and serves as a dynamic forward. Katariya’s rise to prominence came in 2013 when she became the leading goal scorer for India in the Junior World Cup as she amassed five goals and contributed to India’s third-place finish in the tournament. With a career spanning over 200 international games, she has been a crucial part of the team’s successes, including winning bronze at the Asian Games in 2014 and India’s participation at the Rio Olympics 2016 and Tokyo Olympics 2020. In 2016, Katariya took the position of the captain for the Test Series against Australia in Melbourne, which was from November 23 to 30. Under her leadership, the team secured a silver medal at the Asian Champions Trophy in 2018 and finished just behind Korea, another tournament where Katariya was also named Player of the Tournament. Vandana Katariya’s 200th match was when she was included in the 16-member squad during India’s tour of Spain in June 2018, right before the World Cup. At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Katariya scripted history as she became the first Indian woman to score a hat-trick in the Olympics in hockey.
