Vettel: In the Brazil sprint, Stroll and I could have cooperated more

After nearly colliding with one another in the Brazil sprint, Sebastian Vettel believes he and his Aston Martin Formula 1 teammate Lance Stroll could have handled the situation better.

On the ninth lap, the German tried to overtake Stroll on the run out of Turn 3, but his teammate resolutely defended him, forcing him to the grass. Even after they avoided contact and Vettel was able to recover, Stroll was given a 10-second driving infraction. When asked about the event later, Vettel stated he was only somewhat alarmed and questioned whether the two should have been fighting at all. Vettel said to Sky Sports, “I don’t think we made contact, it was close. “Well, it’s obviously only a few seconds. However, when I stepped inside, the space was extremely small. I veered off course, and it was challenging to get back on course.

“I was stranded on the plank, but thankfully I made it back. After we were able to collaborate and I was able to work at my own pace. In Vettel’s opinion, collaborating more with Stroll in an effort to advance would have made much more sense. It’s a thin line, and you’re vying for your position, he said. Obviously, defending is crucial. On the other hand, it constantly checks to see if you are gaining or losing weight. In addition, we are attempting to cooperate. “So I believe today, ultimately, we both could have done more to try and obtain a better positioning for both for the team — and not lose so much time and then finish a little higher up,” she said.

Different Discipline

Stroll admitted that he had no idea how far he had pushed Vettel. He said to Sky Sports, “I have to look at it again. I may not have left enough room because I haven’t watched the video. Stroll was ranked 17th, while Vettel finished ninth. Vettel believed there was a reasonable possibility to earn some respectable points on Sunday. Kevin Magnussen is obviously ahead of us tomorrow, but it’s going to be a different discipline, he said. “Pierre [Gasly] we got today,” he added. “Even if the race is lengthy, the pace seemed reasonable, and tyre maintenance was satisfactory. So hopefully tomorrow we will have a similar opportunity.
