The Dutchman had an early finish to the 2022 race, winning his second drivers’ championship in the Japanese Grand Prix thanks to a second half of dominant performance. This was in stark contrast to his first title win in 2021, which was controversial because to the FIA’s handling of a late-race safety car restart and came down to a nail-biting conclusion in Abu Dhabi. Verstappen famously declared that he could not handle the pressure of such a close race all the time after the outcome of that 2021 title race with Lewis Hamilton. “You can’t have that drama every single year, for sure,” he told The Guardian. It’s not good for me, and it’s not good for anyone on either team.

Verstappen is aware that the demands placed on drivers are likely to increase as F1 prepares for a potential 24-race schedule in 2023. Verstappen responded that he wasn’t worried about the complications of a greater challenge or that he needed to be prepared for more difficult challenges when asked if he was prepared for what might be around the corner. It would be best to cease straight away if you are not ready. He spoke “I mean, I believe that we are all avid race fans. Of course, it’s just that having a season like the one I had last year is good, but having a season like the one I have this year is also nice. If you experienced that every year, like I did last year, it would be really difficult. But that doesn’t really occur in Formula 1, therefore everything should be fine.

Prepared for more

Verstappen’s main rival Charles Leclerc agreed that being prepared for future seasons that will be bigger and more intense was the only option. I believe that everyone is ready for longer seasons, he remarked. “I’m hoping for a snug fit. It’s always enjoyable to fight to the bitter finish. But yes, I’m ready for more races and, ideally, a longer battle. Verstappen does not believe that Red Bull’s lead over the competition will continue until 2023, despite the fact that the team was dominant this year once it overcame the weight disadvantage of its RB18.

He said, “I do believe it will be closer. “People are becoming much more knowledgeable about the cars, and over time all the teams will just get closer.” “We have learned throughout the winter that we definitely need to keep working to improve performance. In addition, we may need to learn even more about the tyres because they will change slightly for the upcoming season. So let’s see how we’re going to handle everything.
