Red Bull has set a date for the unveiling of the car that will be used by Max Verstappen to defend his Formula One title. The RB18 will be the name of Red Bull’s F1 car in 2022, and it will debut on February 9th, nine days before Mercedes’ W13. At the wheel of the RB16B, Verstappen won his first Formula One title in a thrilling finale in Abu Dhabi last season.

Sergio Perez, a Mexican racer, is returning to Red Bull for his second season with the drivers’ championship-winning team. Following Honda’s decision to exit the sport at the end of 2021, Red Bull Powertrains will oversee the RB18’s power unit for 2022, though that power unit will continue to use Honda intellectual property thanks to a deal struck at the end of last season.

Despite winning the Drivers’ title, the team lost out to Mercedes for the Constructors’ title at the end of the season – and they are still chasing the teams’ title for the first time since 2013. After being homologated by the sport’s governing body, the team has been given the “all-clear” to run in testing after a report claimed the RB18 had failed an FIA crash test.

With the sport’s regulations having been reset, this season presents a significant opportunity for Red Bull and others to challenge Mercedes for the championship – but team sporting director Jonathan Wheatley stated that Ferrari could be the big threat at the start of the season.

Only Williams and Haas have yet to confirm their 2022 launches, with the majority doing so ahead of the first pre-season test in Barcelona on February 23-25, with Alfa Romeo announcing their new car to the general public on February 27. The official three-day pre-season test will be held in Bahrain from March 10-12, with the season kicking off with the first race on March 20 at the same track.
