Due to travel bans enacted as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak, F1 has been unable to compete in China for the past three seasons. Due to ongoing COVID-19 constraints, the Chinese GP was removed from the tentative 2023 F1 race calendar, but no replacement event was announced, and the season was cut to 23 rounds. However, as part of the country’s transition away from its zero-COVID policy, Chinese authorities declared at the end of last year that quarantine would no longer be required for visitors beginning on 8 January.

Discussions

Chinese sister site has learned that Chinese GP organisers have already had internal conversations and have made their first contact with F1, which will resume after the New Year’s Day vacations. The Chinese Grand Prix was scheduled to take place from April 14 to 16, 2023, with a two-week hiatus between Australia (31 March to 2 April) and Azerbaijan (28-30 April). The time slot is still free because no new events are listed in the most recent F1 calendar. For flyaway races, F1’s logistics and transport work starts towards the end of January when team equipment is transported by sea freight, so if an agreement can be made, there is enough time to move the race back to its original time slot.

Zhou Guanyu’s first home race ?

Zhou Guanyu would compete in his first home race if the Chinese Grand Prix were to return to the Formula One schedule after being excluded during his rookie season the previous year. The Asian Games in Hangzhou are scheduled to take place in September, and other important sporting events in China will return in 2023, according to the ATP. The Shanghai Masters tennis tournament will return in the Autumn. The 2019 Chinese GP, the 1000th F1 world championship race, was the last major motorsport competition to take place at the Shanghai International Circuit. If the Chinese Grand Prix be added back to the 2023 F1 schedule, it will host the season’s fourth round after the Bahrain Grand Prix, the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, and the Australian Grand Prix.
