Mick Schumacher, who is vying to keep his job with Haas, has responded to rumours that he might one day fill an Audi F1 seat. With only three Grands Prix left in the season, the German has not received many guarantees from team owner Guenther Steiner. Schumacher made his Formula One debut with Haas last year, and he had a difficult year because his team was the slowest on the grid. Performance has improved in 2022, but the 23-year-old has found it difficult to keep up with Kevin Magnussen, his more seasoned teammate.

Not a promising debut season

Mick Schumacher is under increased pressure as the season comes to an end due to an unfortunate string of crashes and pointless finishes. Regarding whether the German will retain his seat for the upcoming season, Nico Hulkenberg is also rumored to be a factor, but Steiner is keeping his options open.

“You just have to put up with [the criticism], We’re all at the limit here and the same applies to us drivers. If we’re not at the limit, we’ll be behind very quickly. Then my situation would be completely different. I’m the driver I am today because of all the situations I’ve been through.” expressed Schumacher.

Schumacher to Audi ?

In the interim, Schumacher has addressed both his current situation and rumors linking him to Audi, who will join the F1 grid in 2026 after reaching an agreement with Sauber. After CEO Markus Duesmann and project manager Adam Baker both praised the idea of hiring a German driver.

Schumacher was questioned about joining Audi in 2026 to which he replied, “I think it’s great that Audi is getting into Formula 1. It is a global company but a German brand. I hope this will bring many Germans back to Formula 1 and that we will have a home race again at some point. Of course it’s nice to hear that such a large group is looking for a German driver, but all of that is still a long way away.”

Haas to come up with a decision soon

As the situation became more tense, Haas CEO Gunther Steiner acknowledged that an ultimate decision ought to be made public soon. “We will get to a decision, hopefully soon.” But nothing is decided 100 per cent yet. We are just going through the last details of what we have to sort out, and then we will make a decision.” exclaimed Steiner.

“It’s a job I need to do. When it’s done, it’s always nice to tick things off the list. When you get something done you can then focus on the next thing. This is an important decision for the team, and there is enough to focus on [elsewhere] to get better.” added the Haas Boss.
