The 2022 Formula One World Championship is nothing short of a surprise package for the fans with top teams like Mercedes struggling to fight for championship with Ferrari and Red Bull dominating the grid. Even Ferrari seems to be slipping away from the title from the last two races where Charles Leclerc has missed to finish P1 with Red Bull taking the charge on the grid as Verstappen overtakes Leclerc in the championship rankings.

Lost at home

When Ferrari committed many strategic mistakes during the race’s transition from wet to dry tyres, polesitter Charles Leclerc not only lost the race to Red Bull’s Sergio Perez, but he was also knocked off the podium to finish fourth. “Sometimes mistakes can happen but there have been too many mistakes overall,” a furious Leclerc expressed after he lost his home race. The Ferrari driver opined that there is no more room for error especially at this stage of the tournament.

‘We will learn from our mistakes’

Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto hopes the team will learn from its mistakes as it returns to contending for victories, something they haven’t been able to accomplish regularly in recent years. “I’m pretty sure that those situations will make us stronger,” Binotto said. “And we are pretty aware, being competitive is a fact; winning is another task. And it’s another level of difficulty. And I think as a team, we are still progressing, learning and maybe it will take some more time.” expressed Binotto.

Consecutive losses

“Certainly, it is a disappointment, when you’ve got the fastest car and you are scoring the pole and you’re not winning the race. It’s somehow a disappointment. What happened in Spain was a completely different story, we had reliability issues while we were clearly leading the race. Here I think there have been circumstances which make our life a bit more difficult. But we have not been great in judging and deciding so yes, it’s a disappointment.” added the team boss.

Binotto said that everything went against them but it happens sometimes and they will bounce back stronger. The next race in the F1 calendar is the Azerbaijan Grand Prix and it will be held on 12 June on the Baku city circuit.
