Ferrari announced on Monday that the Formula One team will hold a four-day test session at its private track in Fiorano. It’s the Maranello team’s first track action in 2022, and it’ll serve as a warm-up for the upcoming season, which kicks off in March in Bahrain, with the team hoping to get Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc up to speed after the winter break. The team’s test driver, Russian Robert Shwartzman, will also participate in the test, which will be conducted with the SF21, the team’s challenger from last year.

In a statement, Ferrari said that this test has become a bit of a tradition by now, with drivers, engineers, and mechanics all getting back into the swing of a Grand Prix, with a four-day track session starting tomorrow at Ferrari’s own track, and that this was no “surprise debut” for the team’s 2022 F1 car with the code number 674. The prancing horse revealed last week that their 2022 F1 machine will be unveiled on February 17, but no name for the new car has been revealed.

In terms of the four-day test, Ferrari said Leclerc will take the wheel on Wednesday, with Sainz taking over the following day. The last time they drove an F1 car was at the post-season Abu Dhabi test, where they tested the new Pirelli 18′′ tyres, which will debut next season for the first time in the sport’s history, driving a mule car. Shwartzman, who will begin the four-day test on Tuesday, will finish it on Friday, giving him his first outing with the team in his new role as test driver. He was the runner-up in the Formula 2 season of 2021.

After a season-long battle with McLaren, Ferrari finished third in the Constructors’ Championship in 2021. As F1 enters a new era with revamped aero regulations in 2022, the team is hoping to turn their fortunes around and get back to winning ways.
