There are presently 23 races scheduled, but there is still a chance that an additional race could be added between the Australian GP on April 2 and the Azerbaijan GP on April 30 to replace the round that was cancelled in China. On March 5, the season gets underway in Bahrain with a night race that starts at 6 p.m. local time. A fortnight later, another night race that begins at 8 p.m., the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, follows. The new Las Vegas race, which will start on Saturday, November 18, will start even later, so it is not the latest start of the year.

Unique timetable

The event will take place on Saturday night at 10 p.m., with practise taking place on Thursday, qualifying on Friday, and the race. The event will start at 6am GMT because of the eight-hour time difference with the UK. The hour-long practise sessions on Thursday will start at 6.30 p.m. and 10 p.m., with the rest of the weekend in Vegas operating on a later schedule. The last free practise session on Friday will start at 6.30 pm, and qualifying will follow at 10 pm. The training will all take place in the dark because the sun sets that weekend at 4.30 p.m.

FIA

All of the F1 races in Europe are set to start at 3 p.m. The first race of the day for Canada, Japan, Austin, Mexico, and Brazil starts at 2 p.m. The western hemisphere races are timed to enable them attract the European broadcast audiences, while Japan’s choice will have been determined by its early sunset. The six sprint races slated for 2023 will take place at various times on Saturdays. Azerbaijan (5.30 p.m.), Austria (4.30 p.m.), Belgium (4.30 p.m.), Qatar (5.30 p.m.), the United States (5pm), and Brazil will all host them (3.30pm). The timings for several FP1s in 2023 have been advanced by 30 minutes as the FIA gave up trying to run all media activities on Friday mornings at GP weekends, delaying the start of track action.
