Brown noted that the Woking-based team was in a challenging situation when he first arrived, reflecting on the advancements made since his arrival at the end of 2016. It was a far from cheerful ship, according to Brown, amid the on-track challenges brought on by the tumultuous collaboration with Honda and a boardroom brawl between Ron Dennis and Mansour Ojjeh. When Brown initially arrived, he discovered “a complete lack of trust across the organisation” in terms of morale. Due to internal workings, “everyone was kind of guilty unless proven innocent. Therefore, there was no teamwork. “I believe that because everyone on the F1 team was trying to buy each other out, there was no adult supervision because there was so much going on at the board level. Therefore, I believe it lacked leadership.

After Ojjeh pushed Dennis to resign as chairman and the case ultimately went to court, Brown joined the team. After Dennis’s contract finally finished in January 2017, he decided to sell the company shares he had been holding. Brown believed that the senior executives’ distraction caused by these management conflicts was what started the problems at the racing team. He declared, “I don’t think that was any one person’s fault. “It was more like a circumstance where a board isn’t cooperating and is about to slide swiftly down a hill. But there was a significant lack of both confidence and trust. “I was aware that the racing team had won numerous races and world titles. And all that remained was for everyone to cooperate, band together, and have faith. It took some time, but in essence we’re now in a really excellent place.
