Alpine announced on Friday that BWT, an Austrian water technology company, has signed on as their new title sponsor. Starting this season, the Renault-owned team will incorporate BWT’s pink colour scheme into its traditional blue, and will be renamed the BWT Alpine F1 Team, according to a statement. Alpine and BWT will also collaborate to “spread the message of sustainability around the world using the combined global platforms of Formula One and the automotive industry,” according to the long-term agreement.

As part of the effort to eliminate single-use plastics, bottle-free zones will be established at Alpine’s factories and at races. BWT has previously partnered with Aston Martin, dating back to the team’s Racing Point and Force India days. Last week, the Silverstone-based team announced the addition of Saudi energy giant Aramco as a joint title partner.

The collaboration between BWT and Alpine, whose drivers include double world champion Fernando Alonso and Frenchman Esteban Ocon, had been anticipated for some time. Otmar Szafnauer, the former team principal of Aston Martin, has been linked with a move to the French manufacturer since his departure in January. Alpine finished fifth in the overall standings last season, with Ocon giving them their first win since 2013, and they hope to move up the field this season.
