Midway through 2020, Valorant exploded onto the tactical FPS market. Valorant, which debuted as one of the best first-person shooters of 2020, combined the gameplay of Counterstrike with its distinctive and diverse roster of Overwatch agents. Valorant features a unique levelling system that scales infinitely, just like Riot’s other video game franchise League of Legends. The level of the player is visible on their banner, and the system was created to reward players for their time spent playing and gaming.

Riot later realised that toxicity was being caused by the Valorant feature that displayed account level. Senior producer Naoise Creaven stated, “We’ve seen the feedback on account levels sometimes used as fuel to be toxic to another player,” in an August 2021 Ask Valorant developer update (be it their rank-to-level ratio, or something else).

We’re aware of your concern and are currently working on it (along with some other minor improvements to Account Leveling). It will take a few patches to finish development and release the change, but we want those of you who don’t want to reveal your Account Level to be able to do so. ” Fans requested that hiding account level be made available, and Valorant has complied.

In Valorant, you can hide an account level very easily through the in-game player customization menus.

  1. Head to the Collections tab
  2. Choose the “Player Cards” icon from the menu’s left side.
  3. Select the “Level Borders” tab
  4. There ought to be a checkbox that says “Show my account level on my player card” underneath the player card on the screen. The player’s account level will be hidden if this option is disabled.

One of the main advantages of hiding an account’s level is that it prevents potential toxic behaviour from other players based on their own account levels. Remember that completing this process will not prevent the player’s friends from seeing their account level; it will still be visible on their friend list. It will only prevent other players from seeing the player’s account level. Fortunately, this won’t have an impact on the player’s battle pass advancement or experience gains.

To counteract Valorant’s toxicity, Riot has added additional features. To ensure that other players only see the names of the agent they are playing, Riot added a feature in Patch 1.07 that enables players to hide their names from players outside of their party. The system was modified by the Valorant Patch 3.0 to enable players to conceal account information. Players can also replace their Riot ID with the name of the agent they are playing as to hide the names of other players in their game who aren’t in their party.

Another option players have suggested is toggling visibility on player levels after the account reaches a certain threshold; this ensures the account has had experience before hiding the level of the user piloting the account. Riot has taken anti-smurf measures, so hopefully the company will look further into implementing anti-smurfing methods in general, which is especially important when it comes to protecting Valorant’s competitive integrity.
