The popular romantic fantasy web novel Under the Oak Tree features lots of lovely moments, magic, and even conflict. Maxi and Riftan’s relationship is a touch problematic, as readers are aware, especially considering Riftan’s possessiveness.
Under the Oak Tree chapter four ends with Riftan following Maxi around like a dog as they attend a festival. We can only assume the two women who viciously attacked Riftan did not realize that he was the Lord of Anatol. They planned to force him to accompany them to the tavern, but Riftan is far too loyal to ever do anything so foolish.
The best part was when Maxi saw the girls harassing him and grew envious. Although Maxi rarely speaks up, she insists that they leave Riftan behind. Even Riftan softened a little when he saw Maxi’s envious side.
Agnes finds the scenario as humorous as the readers do, and she can’t allow the chance to tease Riftan to go to waste. This causes Riftan to get visibly agitated for the first time; he attempts to explain his side, but Maxi simply leads Agnes away to the festival to dance.
Agnes tagged up with Maxi since she couldn’t allow this chance to annoy Riftan to pass her by. Just looking at his wife dances so freely gets Riftan all worked up. He grabs Maxi by the hand and leads her away from the others so that they may be alone together.
We finally get the adorable moment we’ve all been waiting for between the two. Even though it’s full daylight, he gives Maxi passionate kisses and holds her close. Maxi enjoys Riftan’s attention and care, so she can’t possibly refuse it. But Agnes, never one to pass up an opportunity to be a pain, immediately started firing out magic flares.
