2021 has set new records as far as the viewership is concerned. Be it traditional games or mobile esports, this year saw several esports tournaments amass over 1 million peak viewers – 22 events to be precise. As the year comes to a close, here’s a list of the 5 most viewed esports events of this year. It’s imperative to note that the list doesn’t include Chinese viewership.

M2 World Championship

Mobile Legends: Bang Bang’s M2 World Championship managed a peak viewership of 3.08 million. Being the first of two MLBB world championships this year, the event was the game’s most viewed tournament ever and secured the seventh spot in all-time esports events.

As per Esports Charts, the tournament’s winners – BREN Esports, recorded 21.43m hours watched on the team’s matches alone. Despite that, RRQ Hoshi garnered the best average viewership at the event.

M3 World Championship

This was MLBB’s most viewed esports event ever, which happened earlier this month. The tournament was won by Tier One’s Blacklist International, and also managed to secure a peak viewership of 3.19 million with a total of 62.61 million hours watched by viewers.

Overall, it is MLBB’s fourth entry in 2021’s top ten, which is more than any other game. While it might not be the top in viewership, it shows how MLBB has gained popularity in 2021.

PUBG Mobile Global Championship Season 0

PUBG Mobile’s Global Championship Season 0’s conclusion witnessed a great viewership in January 2021. It recorded a 3.80 million peak viewership, and the game managed to stay strong throughout the year. The average viewership for the game was around 528,000 across its 122-hour airtime, and the event’s most popular period was the Round 1, Day 1 Finals.

League of Legends 2021 World Championship

League of Legends World Championship recorded a great peak viewership of 4.01million. This has now become the game’s most viewed tournament and the first competitive PC esports event to garner over 4 million peak viewers.

Additionally, the event also has the record for most hours watched by an esports tournament ever recorded (174.82 million). The game is regarded as one of the biggest titles in esports and its viewership is a testament to that. The numbers could shoot up significantly if the Chinese viewership figures are added.

Free Fire World Series 2021 Singapore

As per Esports Charts, the most viewed esports event of 2021 is Free Fire World Series 2021 Singapore. The mobile game managed to secure a peak viewership of 5.41 million and an average viewership of 2.08 million.

Free Fire World Series 2021 Singapore isn’t just the highest viewed esports event of this year, but also the most viewed event in history. The year 2021 has been exceptional esports and many new titles have been developed this year. It’ll be interesting to see if the trend continues in 2022 as well.
