“We’ll be doing map updates on a more regular basis,” the tweet reads. “Our goal is to fix historical pain points that players have had in the layouts.”

How will it impact other maps is the question. Not many changes have been made to traditional maps for game modes like Control or Escort. Aside from the collective changes all maps received with the transition from Overwatch to Overwatch 2, Ilios, for instance, is the same as it was at launch.

This updated version of a classic map is a welcome addition because Gibraltar was renowned for being a challenging map to attack all three points. This was primarily due to the chokes in the second part and the close spawn in the third, but it appears that the development team was aware of this issue and made changes to the map to address it.

The comparison of the map’s before-and-after images reveals exactly what has changed and how Gibraltar is undergoing significant changes. Only what modifications to other maps—both old and new—they might make is in doubt. Chokes that are easily referred to as “pain points” can be found on maps like Havana and Oasis as well as other frustrating elements. The announcements from the dev team will be the only way for us to ultimately determine when these changes are occurring.
