One of the most seasoned League of Legends teams in Europe will be folding its tents after more than 11 years in the esports business. Following a disappointing end to a long career in the EMEA League scene, the French organization LDLC OL has formally disbanded after finishing as a bottom-tier team in the 2023 LFL Summer Split. The three-year agreement between the team and the football team Olympique Lyonnais expired yesterday, prompting this decision.

In the past few years, LDLC OL has been observed in Europe at both the summit and base of the mountain. The team has seven league championships under its belt since joining the LFL in 2019 and has twice represented France at the prestigious European Masters competition.

These adjustments—the first significant ones to the Magus Ascendant since the contentious durability update of the previous year—include improvements to Xerath’s passive that give him more mana sustain as well as more casts and power for his ultimate.
Only once, in 2020, did the team win the EMEA Masters trophy, despite having a strong roster that included LEC talents like star mid-laner Vincent “Vetheo” Berrié and former veteran support Bora “YellOwStaR” Kim. Ju “Crownie” Marui of Team BDS, Markos “Comp” Stamkopoulos of KOI, and Martin “Yike” Sundelin of G2 Esports are just a few of the tier-one superstars who were nurtured and developed by LDLC OL.
But in the most recent campaign, the group came in ninth with a 6-12 record, failing to make it into the top tier of the league. It is a lackluster conclusion for the LFL champions in their first season and a depressing way to bid farewell to one of the EMEA scene’s stalwarts. LDLC OL has nonetheless been a pillar of the community and has contributed to the development of some of the league’s top players.
