The protagonist of the manhwa, Leon, is a knight who spends almost three centuries out in the wilderness hunting demons. After his long journey, he returns to his role as the kingdom’s Grail Guardian.
Having said that, Leon is not traveling solo. With him now comes a Goddess who, to prevent the demons from destroying their land, needs protection.

In Chapter 40 of The Knight King Who Returned with a God, we see a Grail Knight retaliating against a band of Mercenaries who had just killed six of the Kingdom’s knights.
In response to the Grail Knight’s attempts to reassure them, the leader merely states that there was a major misunderstanding and that the other knights were the ones who had provoked the altercation that resulted in the deaths and injuries.
The mercenaries think they’re getting away with something when the Grail Knight scolds Dellian for his behavior. But the Knight returns to them nearly quickly afterward and demands retribution for the deaths of the six knights of the Kingdom.
They demanded the beheading of six of them before they would accept this restitution. In the next scene, we see Hari leading a group of eager young men and women who will soon be joining the Knights and undergoing instruction under Leon Lionheart.
They arrive at the location and see that the soldiers are exhausted and bruised from the rigorous training. Everyone trains and practices on desolate terrain without any contemporary conveniences or medical facilities.
Hari surprises everyone by addressing Leon as “Your Majesty” as soon as they arrive. It is time to start training, so Leon summons the students to the front. Attempting an attack on him was their primary objective. They were certain that one of them would take damage in the one-on-forty match.
They were wary and careful in their strikes at first, but after seeing how powerful Leon was, they unleashed their full power. Nothing they did could inflict even a minor injury on Leon.
He informs them that they’re not as strong as he thought they would be and that they need to put in a lot more time and effort to become knights. Leon continues by describing the various Knights in further depth, stating that there are five distinct varieties.
