Suzume Anime Film Surpasses US$10 Million at U.S. Box Office

Suzume (Suzume no Tojimari), Makoto Shinkai’s most recent masterwork, was a huge hit in Japan and is currently having a major cultural impact in the United States. Suzume made US$5,001,705 in its opening weekend, which put movie in a good position to break box office records. As of March 26, Suzume had earned a cumulative amount of 14,310,602,380 yen, or around US$109 million, making her a Japanese record-breaker. The previous picture by Shinkai, Weathering With You (Tenki no Ko), which made 14.23 billion yen (about US$108 million) at the box office over its entire run in Japan, has now been eclipsed. As of right now, Suzume ranks as the eighth-highest-grossing anime film in Japan and the 14th-highest-grossing movie overall in that country.

International Success

Suzume’s success is not just limited to Japan and the U.S. The anime film has also been a hit in many other countries, ranking at #1 on its opening day on several box office charts worldwide. It is currently the highest-selling Japanese anime in China of all time and has sold more tickets in South Korea than any other Japanese film.

A Talented Cast and Crew

An outstanding cast and staff are present in Suzume. Suzume Iwato, a character, is voiced by actress Nanoka Hara, and Sta Munakata, a character, is voiced by SixTONES member and idol Hokuto Matsumura. Masayoshi Tanaka created the characters, Kenichi Tsuchiya oversaw the animation, and Shinkai directed and authored the screenplay for the movie. The film was created by CoMix Wave Films and Story Inc., with Takumi Tanji serving as the art director. The movie is being released by TOHO. The soundtrack for the movie was composed by RADWIMPS and Kazuma Jinnouchi of Hollywood, and Toaka of TikTok sang one of the song’s theme songs, “Suzume.”

The competence and craftsmanship of the talented team who created Suzume are demonstrated by the movie’s popularity. It is not surprising that it has broken box office records in Japan and the United States and is a cherished anime film all around the world due to its stunning animation and engaging plot.
