According to the entertainment news website Deadline, Knuckles live-action spinoff series in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise has revealed its star cast. The cast members will include Edi Patterson, Julian Barratt, Scott Mescudi, and Ellie Taylor.

Rory McCann will also be appearing in a guest role. Adam Pally will be returning for his role as Wade Whipple from the films, and Tika Sumpter will be reprising the role of Maddie in a guest role.

When and where to watch the series

The series will be released on the Paramount+ streaming service in 2023, and will be focusing on the character Knuckles, with Edris Elba taking up the role again. The series will take place between the events of the second and the third live-action films. In the series, Knuckles trains Wade as his protege and teach him the ways of the Echidna warrior.

The staff of the film is also set to return for the film. Jeff Fowler is returning as the director for the first episode. Ged Wright, Brando Trost, Jorma Taccone, and Carol Banker are also directing a few episodes. Besides, Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher, Joh Whittington, Toru Nakahara, and Elba will be the project’s executive producers. Whittington is also the head writer alongside writers Brian Schacter and James Madejski.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 opened in the US in April 2022 and earned an estimated $26.5 million on its opening day, as per Box Office Mojo. The film grabbed the #1 spot in 47 markets, including the UK, France, and Australia. The film managed to rake in over $400 million worldwide in the first three months. Box Office Mojo has reported the current worldwide collection of the film at $405,421,518.

The film also became the highest-grossing film based on a video game in the US in April 2022. The voice for the character Sonic was lent by Ben Schwartz. James Marsden and Tika Sumpter also starred in the film, and Jim Carrey played the villain Robotnik. Idris Elba played Knuckles in the film, and Colleen O’Shaughnessey returned for her role as Tails.


The original film raked in $70.002,074 and grabbed the #1 spot over its Presidents’ Day holiday opening weekend in the US in February 2020. In February 2022, Paramount Pictures announced that it had already started the development of the third installment in the franchise. The film is said to release on December 20, 2024.
