Sega has announced a new and updated version of the Sonic Origins collection of remastered Sonic the Hedgehog games. The new collection, Sonic Origins Plus, will include 12 Sonic Game Gear titles, playable Knuckles in Sonic CD, and Amy Rose as a new playable character in Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and Sonic CD. This will be available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store, with a launch date set for June 23, both physically and digitally.
The Plus Expansion Pack will be available as a paid digital upgrade for the owners of the original Sonic Origins collection. The Game Gear games in the pack include Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic the Hedgehog Triple Trouble, Sonic Blast, Sonic Chaos, Sonic Drift, Sonic Drift 2, Sonic Labyrinth, Sonic Spinball, Tails Adventure, Tails’ Skypatrol, and Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine. Sonic Origins, the original collection, was released in June 2022 and includes remastered versions of Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic 3 and Knuckles, and Sonic CD.
The Plus Expansion Pack will also offer playable Knuckles in Sonic CD and Amy Rose as a new playable character in Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and Sonic CD. This will give players the chance to play as beloved characters and explore their unique abilities and features in the game.
Sonic Frontiers, the new game in the Sonic the Hedgehog series, was released for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, and PC via Steam on November 8. The game is an open-world adventure where Sonic travels through breathtaking landscapes, exploring new territories and facing off against powerful enemies. With Sonic Origins Plus, fans of the franchise will have access to a greater number of Sonic games, including those that were previously only available on Game Gear.
