Chapter 47 of “Revenge of the Iron-Blooded Sword Hound” introduces the reader to Saintess Dollores Lun Quo Vadis, a woman of extraordinary magnanimity and fame. Dollores the Saint’s incredible acts of charity have made her legendary. One of the story’s main characters (the “protagonist”) is in a tough spot. She was a medic on the front lines of the war against demons, where she helped save many lives.
But things aren’t as easygoing as they’d hoped. Nobles and merchants both still visit doctors but for quite different reasons. Unlike Saintess Dollores, most of these patients are dealing with the harsh realities of drug addiction or sexually transmitted diseases.
The story takes an intriguing turn when the protagonist quotes an antiquated Old Testament verse to illustrate their perspective on religion and human nature. It appears that these individuals are hiding more than they are disclosing.
When they mention an epidemic in the Saint A slums, the situation becomes even more precarious. The protagonist and Dollores raise suspicions when they bring a packet containing contaminated water from a well in the slums.
When Dolores uses her magical talent to defend the protagonist, the story really takes off. The fact that the protagonist was formerly Lun’s student further enriches their character. The narrative turns focus to an investigation of the pandemic. They say the most to gain from the pandemic will be the Leviathan Clan and the Bourgeois Family. The cause of the epidemic may have been more nefarious than meets the eye.
The Bourgeois Family intends to purchase property and launch new businesses, while the Leviathan Family will gather samples from patients for scientific study. The helpless residents of the slums take the blame in this scheme. The protagonist has facts and makes forecasts that suggest there is a strong alternative to their proposition.
